THE CHECKLIST: How to know GOD’s will…
1. through Prayer
Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to Me, and I metformin weight loss side effects will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know…”
- Prayer is a relationship. Recognize who God is to you, as long as you don’t accept God as your Father, it will be harder for you to give honor and to have a relationship with Him. He wants a relationship with you, just like a friend and like a Father. How do you have a relationship with God? Pray by
- Recognize God’s love for you. (John 3:16)
- Admiting that you are a sinner before God (Col 2:13-15; 1 Jo 1:2; 1-3; Hebrews 10:1-17)
- Surrender the control of your life to Jesus Christ according to the command of God (Romans 12:1-2)
- Pray this prayer:
- Father, I need you. I acknowledge that I am a sinner. (confess your sins, renounce those sins) I thank you that you have forgiven my sins through Christ’s death on the cross for me. I now invite Jesus Christ in my life and in my heart. By faith, I surrender my life to you. Teach me, to live my life your way starting today. Lord, from now on I am yours. Amen.
- Prayer changes us. Be prepared to change your prayer request even ask God, “Lord, what do you want me to pray for?” And wait for His response, for a thought. Usually when I pray I have a list, but many times the list gets segued to a different prayer list. It is because of the Holy Spirit who guides us what to pray for. Do not be like Jonah, that when God didn’t punish the city of Nineveh, which Jonah warned of their destruction he became angry. He wanted Nineveh destroyed because of their wretchedness. Be ready to change for God-a change of prayer.
- Prayer is answered in different ways.
- Yes
- No
- Not yet
- Prayer may be hindered. There are many things, stopping your words from reaching the cellular phone of God. The signal is being hindered literally:
- By sin (Isaiah 1:15)
- Relationships (Matthew 5:23-24)
- Rituals (Matt 6:5-8)
- Disobedience (Amos 8:11)
1. through the HOLY SPIRIT
John 16:13 “However, when He, the Spirit of Truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come…”
- Be enabled by the Holy Spirit. The Spirit guides and instructs us to accomplish things that would have been impossible apart from divine assistance. John 14:26 “26But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”
- Be dependent on the Holy Spirit. They didn’t use their strength to part the sea, to kill a thousand men with a hundred, to share the good news to foreigners. They were dependent on the Holy Spirit.
- Know the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is also called (1) The Holy Spirit is God, and so if the Spirit is God, He will never lead us in a way that contradicts His Word. God is consistent in the way He leads.
- Helper (John 14:16),
- Guide (John 16:13; Isaiah 30:21; Isaiah 65:24),
- Reminder (John 14:26),
- Spirit of Truth (John 14:17)
- Be filled with the Holy Spirit. When God’s people were filled with the Holy Spirit they always: (1) Knew when God was speaking, (2) knew what God was saying and (3) were enabled to obey all God said. In the New Testament the Holy Spirit is a promise of God to every believer (Acts 2:1-21; 1 Cor 12:3, 12-14; Eph 1:13-14). God speaks to us through His Spirit and gives wisdom, understanding, counsel, power, knowledge and fear of the Lord. Isaiah 11:2 “The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.”
- We must be filled with the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 5:18 “…Be filled with the Spirit”
- We must have a relationship with the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:3 “Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.”
So if you feel that God already impresses something in your heart and you feel that the Holy Spirit is telling you to do this, what you need to do is to take your checklist. And what you need to ask specifically is
(1) does it agree with God’s Word? Or is it going against God’s biblical principles? And
(2) does it glorify God?
Remember, that everything God wants you to do, should glorify Him.
