Know the RACE!

Luke 13:24

Make every metformin hydrochloride 1000 mg tablets effort to enter through the narrow door….

When I was still young, I entered this walkathon organized by the church. It was early in the morning, 5:00 a.m., which is not my usual wake up time. I have no reason to join but it was summer and I had nothing to do. As young as I was, I know the goal was to finish the race. So round and round we walked to every corner, passing by mall after mall after mall. And finally at the middle of walking, I noticed that some of the walkers are running already. In my mind, “hey, this is not right… this is a walkathon!” After every corner, I see people passing by me and running to reach the finish line. And so I decided, “oh well, if you’re running I might as well run too.” And so I was running the street where the finish line is—and I remember finishing at the 40-50 mark.

After that walkathon, which turned out to be a running walkathon, there was this ceremony. And I didn’t know that there was. So I waited there and as they gave the awards, in my mind, nobody told me “there were trophies,” “I should have known.” Then they awarded the oldest participant, the youngest and the champion of that years walkathon. And so I told myself, “next year, I’m gonna win that trophy.

Have you ever ran a race, without knowing what’s at the finish line? Because I can say, when I entered that race I didn’t give time to know what it is all about, what I’m entitled to win or what is at stake. And some of us in this race that Christ called us to run, we are forgetting that at the end of finishing this race—we are called to get a prize.

That’s why Jesus made this statement in Luke 13:24, “Make every effort…

Make every effort” in Greek is “agonizomai,” which meant “to enter a contest; to contend with adversaries; or to simply struggle/strive with difficulties and dangers.” Jesus was saying, “you will struggle and you will be challenged by the enemy, but do everything to finish the race and to get the prize.

And as believers, we know that we are in a race, and that we must run in such a way as to get the prize (1 Corinthians 9:24) Let’s not waste our time. We should have that mindset of reaching the goal. We shouldn’t run like how I finished the walkathon, we should run knowing how to run it, knowing that we should daily train and commit ourselves to it.

That is God’s Will for each one of us, but the question is: “Are we making every effort to win the race, which Christ called us to finish?

You know what happened after that year’s walkathon? I didn’t run because there was no walkathon after that year.
