The God of Abe, Ice, and Jake
God also metformin hydrochloride 1000 mg said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘ the LORD, the God of your fathers— the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob— has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.
Exodus 3: 14
When we mention God, Who do we think about? When I was younger, I always thought of Him as an ATM machine that dispensed whatever you asked for or a bodyguard that protected you when you went to sleep, or even a magic doctor that cures you five minutes after a prayer. Well, there may be some truth in that— provider, protector, healer. But who is this great God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob? Aha, you have to remember what He did for these three important people because that will refresh our memory why He is the one we come before in worship and prayer.
Abraham— the Father of many nations was 100 years old when God finally gave him the offspring He promised. Imagine a few years earlier (around ninety plus years old) God tells you “you wil have a child and from there many nations will spurt forth.” We and our natural modern tendency would be to say yeah right and just move on, not trusting God. But God does keep His promises even when we do not understand.
Isaac— the kid who survived, literally. Remember a moment in your life when Dad tells you “Son, we are going to sacrifice to God, I don’t have an animal sacrifice so just in case, could you be it?” I am pretty sure 99.9% of us cannot relate to that (thank God) but look at how God tested the faithfulness and trust of Abraham and Isaac.
And Jacob— this guy really learned from his elders, only thing is he learned the wrong things. Tricking your brother and dad for blessings? Cheating your boss out of what he earns, picking a favorite out of 12 boys, even wrestling with God. Still this proves one thing of Who God is. He wants to use very imperfect people for His glory. Jacob’s 12 boys became the 12 tribes of Israel. And from the tribe of Judah, the Messiah came.
A key thing about God is when you doubt Who He is, remember what He has done. He implies in the above verse that He is to be remembered from generation to generation.
Application:
Doubting the character of our awesome God? Does He seem like lightyears apart from you? Is sin settling in your heart and you do not think God can help? Well remember Who God is and what He has done for you.
Prayer:
Dad, I’m going through really radical events in my life that cloud You from my mind. Thoughts that make me forget Your true character. Please help me remember what You have done for a simple person like me, and prove Yourself mighty when I am here fading in my weakness. Again I want to remember who You are. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
